Last Christmas I got Guitar Hero II and it turned out to be a game my whole family loves. Today I received Guitar Hero III for my birthday. Some initial thoughts are that I like the co-op band mode. One player plays bass while the other plays guitar. We tried it on medium and playing as a team makes it just a little too easy. I think bumping it up to Hard will make it better. The game has all new animations, the characters are updated, new venues to play, the song list so far has an excellent range of styles and sounds and the new wireless guitar is awesome. Replay value should be just like the other Guitar Hero games, Guitar Hero II has kept us entertained for a year. They have changed the visuals as far as how you are doing. The bonus multiplier and the star power take some getting used to, but the changes look nice.

Marvel Goes Digital

One of the big problems about being a comic book reader today is that it cost so much. On average a comic book today cost $3 or $4, when I started reading comic books I can remember them costing 25 cents and then going up to 35 cents. To make it even worse if you want to go back and read older stuff, you have to buy it in back issue or hope that it has been re-printed in a trade paperback of some sort. Marvel Comics has finally done something revolutionary. They are beginning to offer comics in a digital form. Even though this is nothing new, people have been pirating comics for years digitally, this is completely legal. So whats the catch? Marvel want you buy a subscription to view the library. Currently there are 2700+ books in the digital library and more being added all the time and for $59.88 or $9.99 a month you can view them all.

Now I all for comic publishers making the comics they create digital and available for the masses, but I’m still not sure if $59.99 a year is worth it. I think to they need to improve a bit on this idea and make the digital comics portable somehow. Sell a portable reader and give a discount on the subscription to those who own it. Create apps for popular portable systems such as Sony’s PSP, Nintendo DS, Apple’s iPod or even a laptop so you read when you are not connected to the net.

Anyhow, if you love to read comics and want to give Marvel’s digital comics a try they do have about 250 comics you can sample online without paying for a subscription. It says limited on the site, but I don’t see them taking it down. People need to know what they are getting before they subscribe. So go now and read!

The PSP Just Got Even Better

Let me start by saying what a great device the Sony PSP is. The PSP is not just a portable game machine, with it you can also watch movies, surf the internet, play music, and view your favorite photos.

If you own a PS3, you can buy and download PS1 games. You can play them on the PS3 and also transfer them to your PSP for play on the go. I thought this was a brilliant idea making the old PS1 games available again. Now Sony has gone one step further. You don’t need the PS3, you can buy games (both PSP and PS1) on your computer and put them on your PSP. The Playstation Store released a downloader for the PC today. PS1 games are around $5.99 and PSP games vary between $9.99 and $19.99. Demos, wallpaper, trailers, and themes are free. Hats off to Sony!
